Makers runs creative workshops with our artists and makers as tutors.

We run regular lampshade making and letterpress & linoprinting workshops (click & book on the orange button).Vouchers also available to buy here below.

All the other listed workshops can be run on a date to suit you, for ready formed groups of four plus. For large groups and hen parties we can accommodate you in a local cafe with optional buffet- all tailored to your requirements.

Lampshade Making Workshop

with Sallydove

Saturday July 22nd 2017 

2.00pm-5.00pm

£50 per person

You will make a 20cm or 30cm diameter drum lampshade that can be made for a pendant (ceiling) or table lamp. You will learn professional skills AND treat yourself to an enjoyable and relaxed three hours too. Perfect! Just bring half a metre of light to medium weight cotton (patchworking cotton is ideal- nothing too silky, embroidered or double-faced please- more details on booking). We will provide all the other materials required plus tuition, take home instructions and freshly made cake and tea.

No previous craft skills required and you will take home your beautiful new lampshade!

What you get
An introductory workshop for anyone wanting to have a go at printing on an Adana 8 x 5 vintage table top press. This is a hand operated press which gives a unique print every time.

Play
The workshop is suitable for total beginners. This will be your space to explore and experiment with wood and metal type.


With an emphasis on your own creativity, come and play and print on 100% recycled cards. These can be made for a particular occasion or just for fun.

A maximum of two participants allows plenty of one-to-one attention.

All materials included
Tea and biscuits will be provided.

Bird Making Workshop
with sallydove

Flutter along to make a wonderful fabric bird with wire legs! These require a few basic sewing skills and beginners can learn how to use a machine, or hand stitch. Choose from patterned fabrics and a variety of decorative trimmings to bring out the personality of your very own bird.

This a three hour workshop.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Print Cushions Workshop

with Melanie Wickham

Liven up your sofa!
Using lino block printing, design, carve and print your own cushion.
Create bold images or repeat patterns and then print either onto a ready made cushion or fabric to sew later.
One cushion cover/length of fabric is included in the workshop price and more can be purchased on the day if you want to print a whole set!
 
An inspiring and colourful workshop of approximately 3 hours.

 

 

Vintage Lorry Pincushions Workshop
with sallydove

Make a fun pincushion for yourself or as a gift for a friend over a cuppa and biscuits.

All materials provided, lovely fabrics to choose from, brightly coloured pins and create a delightful map-covered gift box (choose your destination!)

This workshop lasts 3 hours.

 

 

WRAPPING ISN'T JUST FOR CHRISTMAS

with Ruth Broadway

Brown paper packages tied up with string, these are a few of my favourite things...
 
Make your own lino stamps/printing blocks that you can use again and again.
 
With guidance from Ruth, a wonderfully experienced lino cutting artist, you will create your own hand printed wrapping paper, gift bags, swing tags and cards.
 
All materials supplied and of course tea and biscuits.

Bring an apron or wear something old so you can really let rip!

This is a stimulating 3 hour workshop.

 

 

Print Stationary and Bunting Workshop

with Melanie Wickham

Create stationery sets and paper bunting!

After carving your own printing blocks you will produce handprinted cards, envelopes, writing paper, tags etc as well as bunting - then you can get writing on your personalised stationary or even give it as a gift to a lucky friend...

Melanie is a talented illustrator who uses lino cutting to create unique images, she will facilitate a fun and relaxed afternoon so that you can get amazing results with absolutely no prior experience necessary.

This is a fun and dynamic 3 hour workshop.

 

 

Fabric Printing Skills Workshop 

with Flora Arbuthnott

On this exciting one day course you will learn how to print your own fabric that can be used for clothes and soft furnishings. You will come away with enough printed fabric to make a cushion and the skills that you need to deck out your home in hand printed creations.

We will cover a range of simple printing techniques including lino printing and screen printing (with paper stencils).

This is a one day course (approx. 5 hours ) with a short lunch break.

 

 

'Next Steps' Lino Printing Workshop 

with Melanie Wickham

If you have made one colour prints already or are fairly confident with crafting, try this slightly more advanced lino printing workshop.

In 3 hours we will design and print 2 and 3 colour prints using the 'reduction' lino printing method.  We will look at how to design the image to achieve a 2 or 3 colour print, cutting out the images and how to register the blocks.  We will use methods you can use later at home, without the need for a printing press.  At the end of the workshop you will be exhausted but will have a small edition of prints ready to frame!

There is no need to prepare in advance but feel free to bring a sketch or image along if you like.

All tools/inks/papers provided but feel free to bring your own if you have them.

This is a brilliant 3 hour workshop.

 

 

Botanical MonoPrinting

with Katharina Nyilas

In this workshop Katharina will teach four monoprinting techniques inspired by botany.

Impressions of plants, leaves and natural fibres will be utilised with mark-making to produce impressions on paper.

The workshop will take you through the print making process, allowing you to experiment with shapes and colour, textures and patterns on paper.

You will take home unique botanical monoprints as well as greetings cards, gift tags and wrapping paper. All materials are provided, however you are welcome to bring your own plant material or imagery for inspiration.

Print Cushions Workshop

with Melanie Wickham

A great fun workshop and a good way to liven up your lounge! 

Using lino cutting we will produce designs to block print onto ready made cushion covers. You could use geometrics, florals, birds or boats - print borders, patterns, bold central images or all over repeats...anything goes to fit either with your interior design plans or your skill and confidence with art and craft!

This workshop is suitable for all levels including beginners and all materials/tools and one cushion cover are included in the price.  

Extra cushion covers can be purchased on the day if needed.
